Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes and its Education

Global prevalence of diabetes has become a health burden. Around 700,000 people have diabetes in Hong Kong, that is, there is a diabetic patient in every ten people. It is believed that the number will continue to rise. Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, China has organized programme for diabetes screening and treatment service, and community projects to enhance public awareness of the prevention and control of the disease. The ‘Hong Kong & Macao Lions Service Day’ of 2017-18 was held in the form of carnival, which aimed at promoting diabetes information and strengthening people’s understanding of diabetes. The information booths set up on the site included blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure and health checks. ‘Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao’ and ‘Lions Kidney Educational Centre and Research Foundation’ co-organized ‘“Diabetes & Your Kidney” Health Exhibition and Seminar 2018’. It delivered general knowledge to the public about the impact of diabetes on health and kidney.
