Crowdfunding is the financing of an idea, project or venture by a group of individuals – most commonly through internet platforms where large numbers of people donate small contributions to raise the total amount of finances required.
By the end of 2015 alone, this form of sourcing funds from the crowd was estimated to have raised over $35 billion USD for enterprises, charitable causes and individual requests. Some of the biggest and most globally recognised names began with crowdfunding:
